Originally developed for forex and futures trading, it has become a widely used platform across multiple asset classes. TIOmarkets offers MT4 on desktop, web browser, and mobile, giving traders flexible access to their accounts from any device.
This guide explains how to download and install MT4 with TIOmarkets, what each version offers, and how MT4 compares to MT5.
What Is MetaTrader 4?
MetaTrader 4 is a trading platform developed by MetaQuotes. As stated on the TIOmarkets MT4 page, it was designed and developed for forex and futures trading, enabling traders to analyse financial markets, backtest trading strategies, develop trading robots, and copy other traders.
TIOmarkets offers MT4 alongside MT5. Both platforms are available via desktop, web browser, and mobile app, and both support trading in forex, indices, stocks, and commodities.
How to Download MT4 with TIOmarkets
TIOmarkets provides MT4 across four versions: Windows/macOS desktop, web browser, iOS, and Android.

MT4 is also available as a web-based platform. You can access it from any modern browser without downloading or installing anything. MT4 Key Features Explained
30 Built-In Technical Indicators
MT4 includes 30 built-in technical indicators covering trend, oscillator, volume, and Bill Williams categories. These are available directly within the platform on all versions. Traders can also create and import custom indicators using MQL4.
9 Analytical Timeframes
MT4 supports 9 chart timeframes, from one minute to one month. All three versions (desktop, web, and mobile) offer the same 9 timeframes.
4 Order Execution Types
MT4 supports four order execution types and four pending order types. The fill policy on MT4 is Fill or Kill. This is a capable set of tools for most trading approaches, though traders who require more advanced order options may find MT5's six order types and additional fill policies (Immediate or Cancel, Return) offer more flexibility.
Automated Trading (Expert Advisors)
MT4 supports automated trading through Expert Advisors (EAs), which are custom scripts written in MQL4. EAs can be created from scratch, imported, or sourced externally. Automated trading is available on the desktop version. The mobile version has limited or no EA running capability, and the web version does not support EAs.
As with MT5, EA trading on TIOmarkets is not compatible with the unlimited leverage feature. Traders using EAs should do so on a standard margin account.
Strategy Tester
The MT4 desktop version includes a strategy tester for backtesting automated trading strategies against historical data. The MT4 strategy tester is single-threaded, which means backtesting runs one currency pair at a time. Traders who need multi-currency or multi-threaded backtesting may prefer the MT5 strategy tester.
Copy Trading
MT4 on desktop supports copy trading, allowing traders to follow and automatically replicate the trades of other traders. TIOmarkets introduced copy trading in 2023.
One-Click Trading
One-click trading is available on the MT4 desktop and web versions, allowing trades to be executed directly from the chart with a single click.
VPS Support
The desktop version of MT4 supports VPS (Virtual Private Server) connectivity. A VPS allows traders to run their MT4 platform and EAs continuously on a remote server, independent of their local computer being switched on. This can be useful for traders who rely on automated strategies and need the platform running around the clock.
Hedging
MT4 on TIOmarkets uses a hedging position accounting system, allowing traders to hold multiple positions in the same instrument simultaneously, including in opposite directions.
MT4 vs MT5: Key Differences
TIOmarkets offers both MT4 and MT5. Here is how they compare based on the feature specifications published on the TIOmarkets platforms page.
| Feature | MT4 | MT5 |
| Technical indicators | 30 | 38 |
| Graphical objects | 31 | 44 |
| Timeframes | 9 | 21 |
| Order execution types | 4 | 6 |
| Fill policies | Fill or Kill | Fill or Kill, Immediate or Cancel, Return |
| Pending order types | 4 | 6 |
| Built-in economic calendar | No | Yes |
| Strategy tester | Single-threaded | Multi-threaded, multi-currency, real ticks |
| MQL5 community chat | No | Yes |
| Symbols available | 175 | 263 |
| Scripting language | MQL4 | MQL5 |

MT4 is a capable and familiar platform with a large existing user base. Traders who are comfortable with MQL4 scripting, have existing EAs written in MQL4, or prefer a more straightforward interface may be well suited to MT4. MT5 offers a broader feature set, more instruments, and a more capable strategy tester for traders who want those additional tools.
