How to Fund a Forex Account in South Africa (2026): Payment Methods Explained

BY TIOmarkets

|March 7, 2026

Funding your forex account is one of the first practical steps on your trading journey, and getting it right from the start saves time and avoids unnecessary fees.

At TIOmarkets, South African traders have access to a range of deposit and withdrawal methods, including ZAR-compatible options that process instantly. This guide covers every available method, what each one costs, how long each takes, and what you need to know about withdrawals before you trade.

What You Need Before You Fund

Before you can deposit, you need a registered TIOmarkets account. Registration takes a few minutes and a Standard account is created automatically on completion.

You do not need to verify your account before making your first deposit. TIOmarkets provides a 14-day grace period from your first deposit to trade before your account must be fully verified. Full verification, which requires proof of identity and proof of address, is required before any withdrawals can be processed. Getting your verification documents submitted early avoids delays when you are ready to withdraw.

The minimum deposit across all methods is USD 20 or currency equivalent. For South African traders funding a ZAR-denominated account, the minimum deposit by account type is:

  • Standard account: R500
  • Raw account: R6,250
  • VIP Black account: R25,000

The Nano account is also available with a minimum deposit of USD 20, but the Nano account is USD only and does not support ZAR as a base currency.

Available Deposit Methods for South African Traders

TIOmarkets supports five categories of deposit method. Available methods and processing times may vary depending on your country and payment provider.

Debit and Credit Card

For most South African traders, a ZAR debit or credit card is the most convenient deposit method. Card deposits support ZAR directly and are processed instantly. The fee is zero when the minimum deposit amount is met.

Supported currencies via card: EUR, USD, GBP, AED, and ZAR.

If you deposit in a currency that is not supported, your payment processor will automatically convert it using the latest exchange rates into the selected base currency of your wallet or account type.

Bank Wire Transfer

Bank wire transfer is available for EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, and AED. ZAR is not supported via bank wire. Processing is usually same day but can take up to five business days depending on your bank.

The fee is zero when the minimum deposit amount is met. Bank wire is suitable for larger transfers where card limits may apply, but the longer processing window means it is less practical for traders who want to fund and trade quickly.

E-Wallet (Skrill and Neteller)

E-wallet deposits via Skrill or Neteller are processed instantly and carry zero fee when the minimum amount is met. Supported currencies are EUR, USD, GBP, and AUD. ZAR is not directly supported via e-wallet.

E-wallets are a practical option for traders who already hold funds in a supported currency and want instant access to their trading account.

Crypto-to-Fiat

TIOmarkets supports crypto-to-fiat deposits using nine assets: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Ripple, Solana, Litecoin, USDC (ERC20), USDT (ERC20), and USDT (TRON). Deposits are usually instant but can take up to a few hours depending on network confirmation times. The fee is zero when the minimum amount is met.

Funds are converted into the selected base currency of your wallet or account type on receipt. This method is available regardless of your country and provides an alternative route for traders who hold crypto assets.

Mobile Money

Mobile money deposits are available in KES and GHS and are processed instantly with zero fee when the minimum amount is met. This method is not applicable to ZAR but is available to traders in Kenya and Ghana.

Deposit Fees and Thresholds

TIOmarkets covers all deposit fees when the minimum deposit amount is met. The minimum deposit is USD 20 or currency equivalent across all methods.

If you deposit in a currency that TIOmarkets does not support, your payment processor will automatically convert it using the latest exchange rates into the selected base currency of your wallet or account type.

Deposits made during weekends or public holidays are processed according to the method used. Instant methods (card, e-wallet, crypto-to-fiat, mobile money) are typically credited automatically including during weekends. Bank wire transfers are processed during standard banking hours only.

Account Base Currencies

TIOmarkets supports the following base currencies on Standard, Raw, and VIP Black accounts: USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, CZK, ZAR, and AED. The Nano account is USD only.

Choosing ZAR as your base currency means your account balance, profit and loss, and margin are all denominated in rand. This removes the need to convert funds before depositing and makes it straightforward to track your account in your local currency.

How Withdrawals Work

Withdrawals at TIOmarkets involve two separate stages: processing by TIOmarkets and delivery by your bank or payment provider. Understanding the difference between these two stages helps set realistic expectations.

Stage one: TIOmarkets processes your request. After you submit a withdrawal request, TIOmarkets reviews and processes it typically within a few hours and up to one business day. Once processing is complete, the funds are sent through the relevant payment network.

Stage two: Your bank or payment provider delivers the funds. After TIOmarkets has processed the withdrawal, delivery time depends on the method. Even methods described as instant can experience short delays if your bank or payment provider conducts additional checks. This is outside TIOmarkets' control.

Withdrawal requests submitted on weekends or public holidays will be processed on the next business day. TIOmarkets does not offer emergency or fast-track withdrawal processing. All requests are handled first in, first out during normal business hours.

Available Withdrawal Methods

Withdrawal methods at TIOmarkets mirror the deposit options, though available methods may vary depending on your country. The methods and their delivery times are as follows.

Bank wire transfer (EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, AED): delivery usually same day, up to five business days.

Debit/credit card (EUR, USD, GBP, AED, ZAR): delivery usually same day, up to five business days.

E-wallet, Skrill and Neteller (EUR, USD, GBP, AUD): instant delivery.

Crypto-to-fiat (nine supported assets): usually instant, up to a few hours.

Mobile money (KES, GHS): instant delivery.

Funds are returned to the original deposit source. Any profits are sent via bank wire transfer or other available methods.

If you choose to withdraw to a currency that TIOmarkets does not support, the payment processor will automatically convert it into the base currency of your account.

Withdrawal Fees

Withdrawal fees depend on the amount withdrawn and the circumstances of the account.

Withdrawals of USD 20 or currency equivalent or more: zero fee across all methods. TIOmarkets covers the charges.

Withdrawals below USD 20: the following fees apply depending on method:

  • Debit/credit card: 5%
  • E-wallet (Skrill/Neteller): 5%
  • Crypto-to-fiat: 5%
  • Mobile money: 5%
  • Bank wire transfer: a USD 25 or currency equivalent processing fee may apply

The USD 25 processing fee for bank wire also applies in situations where an account has been funded but no trades have been placed, or where the withdrawal amount is below USD 20. Review the current withdrawals page for full details before submitting a withdrawal request.

Dormancy Fee

If your account has no open positions and no trades have been placed in the last three months, a dormancy fee of USD 30 per month applies. This is deducted from your account balance.

To avoid the dormancy fee, ensure you maintain trading activity or close your account if you do not intend to continue trading.

Verification and Withdrawals

Full account verification is required before any withdrawal can be processed. Verification requires proof of identity and proof of address. You have a 14-day grace period from your first deposit to submit your verification documents, during which you can trade normally.

Submitting your documents early after registration is the most practical approach. Withdrawals requested before verification is complete will not be processed until verification is finalised. Completing verification before you need to withdraw avoids any delay when funds are required.

Practical Tips for South African Traders

Use a ZAR card for deposits. It is the fastest and most direct method for South African traders, supports ZAR natively, and carries zero fee when the minimum amount is met.

Be aware that ZAR is not supported via bank wire or e-wallet. If you withdraw via a method that does not support ZAR, the payment processor will automatically convert it into the base currency of your account.

Submit your verification documents early. Withdrawals cannot be processed until your account is fully verified, and delays in verification directly delay access to your funds.

Check withdrawal status in the client area. Common statuses are pending (received, awaiting processing) and processed (completed by TIOmarkets and sent through the payment network). If your status shows processed but funds have not arrived, the payment network or your bank is still completing delivery.
