How to Add a New Account to MT4
BY TIOmarkets
|June 10, 2026Adding a new account to MetaTrader 4 is something most traders do at some point: a demo alongside a live account, a second live account for a different strategy, or a clean account after a long break. MT4 supports any number of accounts in its Navigator window, but only one can be active in a given MT4 instance at a time.
This guide covers three methods for adding an account to MT4: logging into an existing TIOmarkets account, creating a new demo account from inside the platform, and adding an account from the Navigator window. It also explains how to switch between accounts, remove accounts from the Navigator list, and run multiple MT4 instances simultaneously when needed.
Why You Might Add Another Account
Common reasons to add an account include:
- Adding a demo account for testing a new strategy without putting real funds at risk.
- Adding a live account after a successful demo run.
- Running separate accounts for different strategies (for example, an EA-driven account and a manual-trading account).
- Adding a partner's or family member's account to a shared computer.
- Using a fresh demo to start clean after a long break.
MT4 keeps all accounts you have logged into in its Navigator > Accounts list. Switching between them takes a couple of clicks, provided the credentials have been saved.
Before You Start
If you are adding an existing TIOmarkets account, you will need three pieces of information:
- Server name: the TIOmarkets server the account is on (different account types or environments may use different servers).
- Login: the account number.
- Password: the master password for the account.
These details are in the registration email TIOmarkets sent when the account was created.
If you are creating a new demo account from inside MT4, you will need to fill in a registration form during the process. No prior credentials are required.
Method 1: Add an Existing TIOmarkets Account
To add an existing account, use the Login to Trade Account dialog.
Open MT4. From the menu bar, go to File > Login to Trade Account. The login dialog appears.
In the Server field, select the TIOmarkets server from the dropdown if it has been used before, or type the server name from your registration email if not. The server name is case-sensitive.
In the Login field, enter the account number.
In the Password field, enter the master password. Using copy and paste is more reliable than typing manually.
Tick Save account information if you want MT4 to remember the credentials for the next session.
Click Login.
The new account becomes the active account. The previously-active account is moved to the background but remains in the Navigator > Accounts list and can be reactivated at any time.
Method 2: Create a New Demo Account From Inside MT4
If you do not yet have a demo account, you can create one directly from MT4 using the Open an Account wizard.
Go to File > Open an Account. A wizard appears, asking you to select a broker.
In the broker list, look for TIOmarkets entries. If TIOmarkets does not appear in the default list, you can use the Add Trade Server option (sometimes labelled "Find new broker" or similar) and search for TIOmarkets or enter the server name manually.
Select a TIOmarkets server, then click Next.
Choose "New demo account" when prompted. Fill in the registration form with the requested details (name, email, country, phone, leverage, initial deposit for the demo, etc.).
Tick the agreement checkbox and click Next.
The wizard creates the account on the TIOmarkets server and displays the generated credentials (login number and passwords). Save these credentials securely; they are needed for future logins.
The new demo account is logged in automatically and added to the Navigator > Accounts list.
Note: a TIOmarkets demo account can also be created through the TIOmarkets website. Both methods produce a working demo account. Use whichever is more convenient.
Method 3: Add via the Navigator Window
The Navigator window provides an alternative starting point for both adding and switching accounts.
Open the Navigator with Ctrl+N. Right-click on the Accounts node. The context menu includes:
- Login to Trade Account: opens the same login dialog as Method 1.
- Open an Account: opens the same wizard as Method 2.
This is functionally equivalent to using the File menu, but is faster if the Navigator is already open.
Switching Between Accounts
Once multiple accounts are in the Navigator > Accounts list, switching between them is straightforward.
Double-click an account to switch to it. If "Save account information" was ticked when that account was added, MT4 logs in automatically. If not, a password prompt appears.
Right-click an account and select Login for the same effect.
The title bar updates to show the new active account number, holder name, and server. The Market Watch refreshes with the symbols available on the new account. Open positions, if any, appear in the Terminal > Trade tab.
Only one account is active per MT4 instance. Switching accounts ends any active session on the previous account.
Removing an Account From the Navigator
To clean up the Navigator > Accounts list, right-click on an account you no longer want listed and select Delete.
This only removes the account from MT4's local list. The account itself remains active on the TIOmarkets server and can be re-added at any time using File > Login to Trade Account with the credentials.
Deleting an account from the Navigator does not unsubscribe from TIOmarkets services, does not delete the account itself, and does not affect open positions, balance, or history.
Running Multiple MT4 Instances Simultaneously
A single MT4 instance can only have one active account at a time. If you need to monitor two or more accounts at the same time (rather than switching between them), the standard approach is to run multiple MT4 instances by installing the platform in separate folders.
For example, on Windows you might install MT4 in:
- C:\Program Files\TIOmarkets MT4 - Account A
- C:\Program Files\TIOmarkets MT4 - Account B
Each installation is independent. You can launch both at the same time, log each into a different account, and they will run as separate windows with their own charts, indicators, and EAs.
Each MT4 instance consumes memory and CPU resources, so running many simultaneously can slow down the computer. Two or three instances is a common practical limit on a typical workstation.
A common use case for multiple instances is running an EA-driven live account in one instance, a demo in another for testing, and possibly a third instance for a manual-trading account.
Practical Considerations
The account number, server, and password are all required for adding an existing account. Missing any one of them prevents the login from succeeding.
When you create a new demo account from inside MT4, the demo credentials are typically shown once. Save them immediately; if the dialog is closed before the credentials are recorded, you may need to contact TIOmarkets to retrieve them.
If "Save account information" is ticked, MT4 stores the password on the local computer. On shared or public computers, leave this unticked to prevent others from logging into the account.
If you have logged into the wrong account by mistake (for example, the live account when you meant to use the demo), switch by double-clicking the correct one in the Navigator. Any unintended actions taken on the wrong account remain on that account.
MT4 and MT5 are separate platforms. An MT4 account cannot be added to MT5, and an MT5 account cannot be added to MT4.
Trading at TIOmarkets
TIOmarkets offers MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 on desktop, web, and mobile, across four account types. The Standard account is created automatically on registration with a minimum deposit of $20 or currency equivalent. The Raw and VIP Black accounts are opened separately through the client area. The Nano account is MT5 only with a $20 minimum deposit, USD only. Hedging is supported on all accounts. A swap-free Islamic account is available; contact TIOmarkets for eligibility and instrument requirements. Copy trading is available on both MT4 and MT5.
Orders are executed at the best available market price, which may result in positive or negative slippage. Demo accounts often execute instantly and may not fully replicate live slippage conditions. Spreads are variable and are typically higher than minimum figures shown. Leverage on each instrument is subject to change depending on market conditions and applicable regulatory requirements.
